Bathroom Vanities in Montreal

Bathroom Vanities designed, built and installed for Montreal — triplex staircases, out-of-square rooms, and the widest humidity swing of any of our markets. Our Montreal showroom is on Jean-Talon Ouest.

What changes here

Bathroom Vanities in Montreal, specifically.

In Quebec a bathroom is the wettest room in a house that spends half the year sealed and heated, which is a harder combination than either condition alone. Cores, edge sealing and finish are specified for that, and solid timber is detailed for the annual movement. In the older triplex and duplex stock, bathrooms are small and were fitted into a plan that predates them, so the vanity is almost always a made-to-measure piece rather than a standard size.

Older buildings have out-of-square rooms, sloped floors and services in awkward places. Everything is templated on site.

The Montreal triplex is a specific delivery problem: an exterior staircase, a tight interior turn at the top, and often no lift. Cabinetry for those units is sized to be carried up that stair, and where a piece cannot be, it is built to assemble in the room.

Winters here are long and heated interiors get genuinely dry, then summers are humid. That annual swing is wider than most markets and it is the reason solid timber has to be detailed to move rather than fixed rigid.

How we build it

Made once, properly.

The specification below is the same whether the job is in Montreal or anywhere else we work — it is how we build, not what we build for the market.

A vanity is the piece of cabinetry that takes the most abuse in a house — standing water, steam, heat from styling tools and daily opening — in the smallest space. It has to be built for that and still look like furniture, which is a materials decision as much as a design one.

Built for a wet room

Moisture-stable cores, sealed edges and a finish specified for steam rather than for a dry room.

Wall-hung where it helps

Floating the vanity keeps the floor continuous and makes a small bathroom read larger, and it puts the plumbing where it can be reached.

Storage planned around plumbing

Drawers are notched around the trap so the space under the basin is usable rather than nominally there.

Where we work

Serving Montreal

We work throughout Montreal, including Outremont, Le Plateau, Griffintown, Notre-Dame-de-Grace and Ahuntsic. The housing here is triplexes and duplexes with exterior staircases, Plateau flats, converted industrial buildings in Griffintown, and detached houses in the western neighbourhoods, and the cabinetry is specified for it rather than to a national standard.

Our Montreal showroom is at 4865 Jean-Talon O.. The samples are worth handling before you choose — or send the drawings and we will price it first.

Everything else we make in Montreal

The rest of the house.

One shop draws, finishes and installs all of it, which is why the closet matches the kitchen and there is one number to call when something needs adjusting.
