Custom Kitchens in Montreal

Custom Kitchens designed, built and installed for Montreal — triplex staircases, out-of-square rooms, and the widest humidity swing of any of our markets. Our Montreal showroom is on Jean-Talon Ouest.

What changes here

Custom Kitchens in Montreal, specifically.

Quebec has the widest annual humidity swing of any market we work in, and it is the single most important thing about specifying a kitchen here. A heated interior through a long winter takes moisture out of timber; a humid summer puts it back. Doors, panels and any solid timber element are detailed to accommodate that rather than resist it. In the older housing there is a second constraint on top of it — rooms that are not square, floors that slope, and access up an exterior or interior stair that decides how big a delivered unit can be.

The Montreal triplex is a specific delivery problem: an exterior staircase, a tight interior turn at the top, and often no lift. Cabinetry for those units is sized to be carried up that stair, and where a piece cannot be, it is built to assemble in the room.

Winters here are long and heated interiors get genuinely dry, then summers are humid. That annual swing is wider than most markets and it is the reason solid timber has to be detailed to move rather than fixed rigid.

Older buildings have out-of-square rooms, sloped floors and services in awkward places. Everything is templated on site.

How we build it

Made once, properly.

The specification below is the same whether the job is in Montreal or anywhere else we work — it is how we build, not what we build for the market.

A custom kitchen is not a better-made version of a stock one — it is a different process. The plan is drawn around how the room is actually used and what appliances are going in it, and the cabinetry is then made to that drawing. Nothing is sized to a catalogue module, which is why a custom kitchen fits a room that stock cabinetry can only approximate.

Drawn around the appliances

Every cutout, clearance and ventilation run comes from the appliance list, so we ask for it at the first meeting rather than at the end.

Made to the room, not to a module

Cabinet widths follow the plan. There are no filler panels covering the difference between a catalogue size and the wall.

Finished in our own facility

The grain match approved on a sample is the grain match delivered, because the same shop sprays every panel in the run.

Where we work

Serving Montreal

We work throughout Montreal, including Outremont, Le Plateau, Griffintown, Notre-Dame-de-Grace and Ahuntsic. The housing here is triplexes and duplexes with exterior staircases, Plateau flats, converted industrial buildings in Griffintown, and detached houses in the western neighbourhoods, and the cabinetry is specified for it rather than to a national standard.

Our Montreal showroom is at 4865 Jean-Talon O.. The samples are worth handling before you choose — or send the drawings and we will price it first.

Every project is photographed room by room with the materials and the detailing listed, so you can see how a job like this is actually put together before you commit to one.

Everything else we make in Montreal

The rest of the house.

One shop draws, finishes and installs all of it, which is why the closet matches the kitchen and there is one number to call when something needs adjusting.
