Quebec's older housing is full of original built-in joinery — panelled halls, glazed cabinets, window seats — and new work sits beside it or it does not belong. Matching a profile is usually a better decision than introducing one. In the newer suburban stock the opposite applies: large open rooms with nothing to anchor them, where a single long run of joinery does more for the room than any amount of furniture.

The Montreal triplex is a specific delivery problem: an exterior staircase, a tight interior turn at the top, and often no lift. Cabinetry for those units is sized to be carried up that stair, and where a piece cannot be, it is built to assemble in the room.
