White Marble House

Marble everywhere is a supply problem before it is a design one. The island, the splashback and the perimeter all come from the same block, which meant reserving the slabs before the drawings were finished and cutting to a plan that used them without waste.

The waterfall returns are mitred, not butted, so the veining turns the corner and carries down the end. Done properly the joint disappears; done badly it is the first thing anyone sees.

Copper pendants and a black bathroom keep the house from becoming clinical — two warm, dark notes in an otherwise very bright plan.
