A villa built around a floating stair and a linear fireplace, with a dark kitchen, a concrete-toned island and walnut lining the living wall.

The stair floats — treads cantilevered off a concealed spine with a frameless glass balustrade — so the joinery around it had to be scribed to a structure that is doing something visually improbable. Everything within a metre of it was set out on site rather than in the shop.
The kitchen is dark and long, with a concrete-toned island running parallel to the glazing. Keeping the island low and unbroken lets the view past it do the work.
Walnut lines the living wall and returns into the fireplace surround, so the fire reads as a slot cut into joinery rather than as an appliance hung on plaster.
