Black White and Brass Apartment

The panelling is traditional and the kitchen is not, which is the whole idea. Framed panelled walls set the proportions of the room, and then a black gloss island with a white marble top sits inside them as a modern object.

Gloss at that scale is unforgiving — it shows every ripple in the substrate — so the doors were built on a stable core and sprayed flat rather than foil-wrapped.

Brass appears sparingly: the island plinth reveal, the tap, the handles on the tall units. Ochre in the upholstery picks it up without repeating it.
