In the Palm Beaches the bathroom is often the most finished room in a house that is used seasonally, and it has to look like furniture while surviving a wet-room duty cycle. That is a materials decision: a stable core and a sealed edge underneath, a furniture-grade finish on top. In older and historic properties the plumbing is fixed where it is, so the vanity is drawn around the waste rather than the other way round.
Tropic Isle and the streets east of the Intracoastal are canal-front, so the salt and humidity rules that apply in Fort Lauderdale apply here too.
Delray has genuine historic districts, and in those the exterior is controlled even where the interior is not. Interior cabinetry is generally unrestricted, but anything that changes a window, a door or an elevation is worth checking before it is drawn.
The older cottages have small, closed kitchens. The work is usually as much about the wall coming out as the cabinetry going in, which is why the appliance list and the structural plan need to be settled together.

A vanity is the piece of cabinetry that takes the most abuse in a house — standing water, steam, heat from styling tools and daily opening — in the smallest space. It has to be built for that and still look like furniture, which is a materials decision as much as a design one.

Floating the vanity keeps the floor continuous and makes a small bathroom read larger, and it puts the plumbing where it can be reached.
Drawers are notched around the trap so the space under the basin is usable rather than nominally there.
