Walk-In Closets in Santa Monica

Walk-In Closets designed, built and installed for Santa Monica — century-old bungalows a mile from salt air, on streets with nowhere to park. Our Los Angeles showroom downtown serves the Westside daily.

What changes here

Walk-In Closets in Santa Monica, specifically.

California dressing rooms are usually more open than closed — glazed to the bedroom, sometimes without doors at all — which means the inside of the joinery is permanently on display. That changes the specification: consistent internal finishes, lighting inside the shelving rather than a ceiling fitting, and a discipline about what is visible and what goes behind a front. Near the coast the marine air is a genuine factor in what hardware gets specified.

The bungalow stock is small-roomed and full of original detail. The usual project takes one wall out and then works hard to make the new cabinetry belong to a house built a century ago.

Streets are dense and parking is genuinely difficult. Deliveries are booked, permitted where required, and kept short.

Ocean air reaches most of the city, and it is closer to a marine environment than people expect a mile inland. Hardware and finishes are specified accordingly rather than as though this were a dry inland market.

How we build it

How a walk-in closets gets made.

What follows applies to every walk-in closet we make, in Santa Monica and everywhere else.

A closet is a storage problem with a fixed inventory: a specific number of long-hanging pieces, short-hanging pieces, folded items, shoes and bags. Designed against that inventory it works for years. Designed as an even grid of rails and shelves it is full within a season, which is why the first conversation is a count rather than a drawing.

Built to be used daily

Soft-close throughout, drawers rather than doors at low level, and hardware rated for the number of cycles a dressing room actually sees.

Planned against a real inventory

We start from what actually has to go in — long, short, folded, shoes, bags — rather than filling the room with equal shelves.

Lit inside the joinery

Lighting sits in the shelving and behind the hanging rails, so what you are looking at is lit rather than shadowed by your own body.

Where we work

Serving Santa Monica

We work throughout Santa Monica, including North of Montana, Ocean Park, Sunset Park and Wilshire-Montana. The housing here is Craftsman and Spanish bungalows, 1920s and 1930s apartment buildings, and contemporary rebuilds north of Montana, and the cabinetry is specified for it rather than to a national standard.

Our Los Angeles showroom downtown serves the Westside daily. The showroom is at 506 S Spring St. Visit when it suits, or start by sending the plans and we will come back with a number per room.
