California dressing rooms are usually more open than closed — glazed to the bedroom, sometimes without doors at all — which means the inside of the joinery is permanently on display. That changes the specification: consistent internal finishes, lighting inside the shelving rather than a ceiling fitting, and a discipline about what is visible and what goes behind a front. Lighting sits in the shelving and behind the hanging rails, so what you are looking at is lit rather than shadowed by your own body.
Soft-close throughout, drawers rather than doors at low level, and hardware rated for the number of cycles a dressing room actually sees.
