Custom Kitchens in Los Angeles

Custom Kitchens designed, built and installed for Los Angeles — houses with strong architectural identities, on streets that are hard to deliver to. Our Los Angeles showroom is on South Spring Street downtown.

What changes here

Custom Kitchens in Los Angeles, specifically.

California kitchens tend to open to the outside more completely than anywhere else we build — full sliders, pass-throughs to a terrace, indoor and outdoor cooking treated as one room. That puts interior cabinetry in reach of direct sun and, near the coast, marine air, so finishes and hardware are chosen for the exposure the room actually gets. The architecture is also unusually specific here, and a kitchen that ignores whether the house is Spanish Colonial, mid-century or contemporary will always look imported.

Los Angeles housing is stylistically specific in a way most markets are not. A Spanish Colonial in Hancock Park and a mid-century in Silver Lake want genuinely different cabinetry, and the fastest way to get a house wrong is to apply one language to both.

Hillside properties are an access problem. Narrow streets, long stair runs from the kerb and no staging area mean cabinets are sized to be carried by hand and delivered in sequence rather than all at once.

Seismic requirements mean tall cabinetry and heavy runs are anchored properly. That is straightforward when it is planned and awkward when it is not.

How we build it

The part that does not change.

None of this changes by location. It is the standard every custom kitchen leaves the shop to, Los Angeles included.

A custom kitchen is not a better-made version of a stock one — it is a different process. The plan is drawn around how the room is actually used and what appliances are going in it, and the cabinetry is then made to that drawing. Nothing is sized to a catalogue module, which is why a custom kitchen fits a room that stock cabinetry can only approximate.

Drawn around the appliances

Every cutout, clearance and ventilation run comes from the appliance list, so we ask for it at the first meeting rather than at the end.

Made to the room, not to a module

Cabinet widths follow the plan. There are no filler panels covering the difference between a catalogue size and the wall.

Finished in our own facility

The grain match approved on a sample is the grain match delivered, because the same shop sprays every panel in the run.

Where we work

Serving Los Angeles

We work throughout Los Angeles, including Hancock Park, Los Feliz, Silver Lake, Brentwood and Venice. The housing here is Spanish Colonial and Craftsman houses, mid-century hillside homes, and a steady flow of contemporary rebuilds, and the cabinetry is specified for it rather than to a national standard.

Our Los Angeles showroom is at 506 S Spring St. Bring the plans, or send them over and we will itemise the cabinetry by room before you visit.

Every project is photographed room by room with the materials and the detailing listed, so you can see how a job like this is actually put together before you commit to one.

Everything else we make in Los Angeles

The rest of the house.

One shop draws, finishes and installs all of it, which is why the closet matches the kitchen and there is one number to call when something needs adjusting.
