In Quebec a bathroom is the wettest room in a house that spends half the year sealed and heated, which is a harder combination than either condition alone. In the older triplex and duplex stock, bathrooms are small and were fitted into a plan that predates them, so the vanity is almost always a made-to-measure piece rather than a standard size.

Floating the vanity keeps the floor continuous and makes a small bathroom read larger, and it puts the plumbing where it can be reached.
