The name is old, a Hispanic Arabic word for red earth pigment, and the colour behaves like the pigment rather than like paint. Almagra runs brick-and-clay red with a great deal of brown in it, and ZENIT is the only way it makes sense: a super-matt surface absorbs light and returns the colour dry and powdery, the way an ochre wall does. Good on a wine room, on book-lined shelving, or on a single bank of lower doors under stone.
