Alvic — 5 door surfaces, 2 worktops

Alvic Surfaces — Gloss, Matt, Supermatt

Alvic calls these technologies. In practice they answer one question: how do you want the kitchen to behave? Gloss reflects and shows fingerprints. Supermatt absorbs and hides them. SYNCRON puts a real texture under your hand. Compact laminate is a worktop, not a door.

The two worktop programmes have no design list here because no door decor runs in them — they are worktops, specified against whichever front the kitchen uses. We match them at the consultation, against a physical sample of the door and the worktop together.

LUXE by ALVIC69 designs

A lacquered high-gloss surface with a genuine mirror reflection — the finish clients point at when they say they want a kitchen that looks like glass. It doubles the light in a small room.

Specify it when

A galley or a small kitchen that needs to feel larger, an island front you want to read as a single reflective plane, or a dark colour you want to keep from going flat.

Watch for

It shows fingerprints, and it shows them most on a dark colour at eye level. Pair it with a supermatt on the base units and it stops being a daily annoyance.

SYNCRON by ALVIC80 designs

A matt surface with a physical texture registered to the printed decor, so the grain you feel lines up with the grain you see. It is what stops a wood decor reading as a photograph of wood.

Specify it when

Any woodgrain that will be touched — doors, drawer fronts, a full-height run someone walks past every day. The registration is the whole argument for it.

Watch for

The texture is directional. On a mitred or a mixed-orientation door, confirm grain direction on the drawing before it is cut.

SYNCRON Laminates77 designs

The same registered texture and the same look as SYNCRON, on a laminate rather than a lacquered panel. Different substrate, different price.

Specify it when

A large order where the SYNCRON look matters and the lacquered-panel budget does not stretch across the whole kitchen.

Watch for

Compare the two in the same light before deciding. They are close, and the difference is easier to see in person than in any photograph.

ZENIT by ALVIC79 designs

A soft, low-sheen, anti-fingerprint surface that absorbs light instead of bouncing it. The default for a handleless kitchen where nothing should draw the eye except the wood or the stone.

Specify it when

Handleless kitchens, dark colours, and any household where the doors get touched constantly and nobody wants to wipe them.

Watch for

Supermatt hides fingerprints, not damage. A deep scratch on a supermatt reads more than it would on a gloss, because there is no reflection to hide in.

Zenit Eco21 designs

Zenit's supermatt surface on an ecological substrate. The finish does not change; what is under it does.

Specify it when

A project carrying an environmental requirement where you do not want to give up the finish to meet it.

Watch for

It runs on a narrower colour range than standard Zenit. Check your colour is in it before you commit the specification.
